Job Description
The Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with the Corporate Controller and Assistant Corporate Controller in managing the company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures, preparing consolidated financial statements, reporting to top management and externally and performing/planning internal audits.
Responsibilities
Financial Statements and Consolidation
• Participate in the preparation of complete and accurate monthly consolidated financial statements and prepare accounting schedules;
• Prepare journal entries for the consolidated financial statements;
• Participate in the preparation of the quarterly consolidated financial statements and Management’s discussion and analysis (MD&A);
• Prepare/validate/reconcile various reports;
• Manage the accounting for leases (IFRS 16) and the centralized fixed asset schedules;
• Provide guidance and training to the financial analysts;
• Participate in the year-end process (including year-end files for the auditors);
• Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to improve accuracy and participate in the conception and improvement of reports;
• Prepare and/or review various internal and external reports.
Tax
• Participate in the preparation of the tax provisions and tax returns;
• Participate in the preparation of annual financial statements for all the legal entities across the organization.
Controls and Compliance
• Support divisions/subsidiaries in implementing their documentation of internal control (including building and editing flowcharting and process narratives);
• Support the review of documentation and control grids of divisions/subsidiaries;
• Perform audit testing of controls and procedures in place in the divisions/subsidiaries.
Other tasks
• Prepare and obtain the information to complete the various forms required for the annual renewal of insurance policies;
• Prepare accounting and documentation for the annual pension plan audit and support external auditors,
• Support the accounting team;
• Participate in special projects;
• Other tasks as required on occasion.
Candidate Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA);
• Three to five years of relevant experience in industry and/or accounting firm;
• Knowledge of financial controls and accounting standards;
• Bilingual in English and French (oral and written);
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel is a must, and intermediate skills required in other MSOffice software.
