The Plant Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing operations in a multi-shift converting environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on execution, throughput, schedule discipline, safety, people development, and operational stability. The successful candidate will spend substantial time on the production floor working directly with supervisors, adjusters, operators, quality, maintenance, and scheduling teams to drive performance and solve problems.

This role is not suited to a “desk manager.” We are looking for a practical, hands-on manufacturing leader who is comfortable in a fast-moving production environment and capable of building accountability and technical capability across the plant.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
  • Lead daily manufacturing operations across multiple shifts
  • Drive production throughput, schedule execution, and on-time delivery performance
  • Align manpower and machine capability with production priorities and backlog requirements
  • Improve operational consistency in a high-mix, high-changeover manufacturing environment
  • Monitor and act on key operational KPIs including:
  • units produced,
  • labour efficiency,
  • estimated vs. actual performance,
  • downtime,
  • spoilage,
  • schedule attainment,
  • and absenteeism
  • Escalate and address production issues quickly and directly
  • Maintain strong floor presence and visibility across all departments and shifts
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all company policies and legislative requirements
  • Ensure housekeeping, machine condition, and workplace organization standards are maintained
  • Lead safety investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up activities
  • Support Joint Health & Safety Committee processes and compliance activities
Continuous Improvement & Manufacturing Stability
  • Improve machine uptime, changeover execution, and overall throughput
  • Drive practical continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational results
  • Reduce dependency on key individuals through training, process discipline, and standardization
  • Support implementation of Lean manufacturing tools where they create real operational value
  • Improve operational visibility and data accuracy through disciplined production reporting and follow-up
People Leadership & Workforce Development
  • Coach and develop supervisors, lead hands, adjusters, and operators
  • Build accountability and ownership on the production floor
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and technical training initiatives
  • Identify and develop future technical and operational leaders
  • Promote a culture of urgency, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Address attendance, performance, and disciplinary issues in a consistent and professional manner
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Scheduling, Sales, Customer Service, Maintenance, HR, and Finance teams
  • Balance customer urgency with operational realities and production efficiency
  • Participate in production planning and backlog management discussions
  • Support operational communication and alignment across the broader manufacturing network

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong operational and floor leadership background in manufacturing, converting, printing, packaging, paper, or related industries
  • Proven ability to lead hourly production teams in a multi-shift environment
  • Strong understanding of production flow, scheduling, staffing, and throughput management
  • Experience managing operational KPIs and performance metrics
  • Practical problem-solving skills with strong sense of urgency and accountability
  • Comfortable working directly on the production floor in a hands-on environment
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives is an asset
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to support off-shift operations as required
