The Financial Analyst shall be responsible for assisting the Canadian Controller with the management of overall financial operations of a manufacturing plant. The Financial Analyst will play a key role in building the financial backbone of the business, supporting processes, reporting, systems and controls. The Financial Analyst will ensure a timely and accurate month-end close by performing key duties and ensuring accuracy of accounting transactions.

The Financial Analyst will aid the Controller in tracking and performing the daily financial activities, assessing actual-to-budget variances, responding to inquiries of senior management, completing special projects, and maintaining internal controls in accordance with group accounting policies and internal control frameworks. This position will prepare month-end financial entries, perform monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis of the Financial Statements and will work with the Canadian Controller and Director of Finance to review, analyze and present the results to management.

Key Responsibilities

The Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining and managing the local Financial and Cost Accounting functions, which include:

  • Coordinating and monitoring job costs to ensure accurate transactional processing
  • Monthly analysis on costs (material and labor usage variances, labor efficiencies and under absorption)
  • Monitoring the results of completed jobs to identify causes of variances, input errors and other anomalies as revealed in variances between actual and estimated cost
  • Balancing the Intercompany accounts payable and receivable, sales, and purchases, record and reconcile intercompany cross charges
  • Performing cycle counts and inventory adjustments as needed, inventory provision analysis, to improve quality and increase turnover
  • Reconciling all Balance Sheet accounts monthly
  • Daily bank reconciliation and month end payables and receivables reevaluation
  • Handle payroll relates entries and monthly headcount FTE reporting
  • Maintaining the fixed assets schedule, depreciation, asset acquisition, disposal, and transfers, handle CAPEX requests
  • Maintaining prepaid expenses schedule, perform monthly accruals, estimate vendor and supplier rebates, calculate monthly sales commissions
  • Monthly sales tax reporting to Revenue Quebec
  • Performance of tasks outlined in the monthly financial close checklist (JE’s, etc.)
  • Submitting the monthly consolidation package to Corp office on time.
  • Responding to audit inquiries and data/documentation requests
  • Identify and implement process improvements

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA designation is an asset)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in French and English
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Prior experience in month end closing, analysis, and reporting
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Strong working and practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Experience with financial ERP systems and applications
