The Financial Analyst shall be responsible for assisting the Canadian Controller with the management of overall financial operations of a manufacturing plant. This position will work closely with plant operations and management personnel and play an important role in monitoring the cost performance of jobs to assess data accuracy, production efficiency and profitability. The Financial Analyst will ensure a timely and accurate month-end close by performing key duties and ensuring accuracy of accounting transactions.
This position will prepare month-end financial entries, perform monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis of the Financial Statements and will work with the Canadian Controller and Director of Finance to review, analyze and present the results to management. The Financial Analyst will aid the Controller in formulating the operating budget, assessing actual-to-budget variances, responding to inquiries of senior management, completing special projects, and maintaining internal controls in accordance with group accounting policies and internal control frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
The Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining and managing the local Financial and Cost Accounting functions, which include:
- Coordinating and monitoring job costs to ensure accurate transactional processing
- Monthly analysis on costs (labor efficiencies, costs variances, etc.)
- Inventory reporting and analysis (to improve quality and increase turns)
- Monitoring the results of completed jobs to identify input errors and other anomalies as revealed in variances between actual and estimated cost
- Identifying the causes of variances
- Balancing the intercompany accounts
- Performing inventory adjustments as needed
- Reconciling all Balance Sheet accounts monthly
- Performance of tasks outlined in the monthly accounting close checklist (JE’s, etc.)
- Responding to audit inquiries and data/documentation requests
- Identify and implement process improvements
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA designation is an asset)
- Good verbal and written communication skills in French and English
- 5+ years of experience
- Prior experience in month end closing, analysis, and reporting
- Manufacturing experience
- Strong working and practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Experience with financial ERP systems and applications. Microsoft Dynamics AX is a plus.
