The Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, timely, and detailed cost estimates for envelope opportunities with a secondary focus on packaging and label opportunities. This role supports Sales by leveraging the full breadth of company capabilities to determine the most efficient and cost-effective production methods.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Analysis
- Develop accurate and timely cost estimates using company estimating tools and models within the ERP system
- Review customer specifications to determine the most efficient, cost-effective manufacturing approach
- Calculate costs for materials, labor, and machine time based on job requirements
- Apply current raw material pricing (e.g., paper, window film, cartons, freight, skids) to all estimates
- Identify and recommend alternative production methods or specifications to improve competitiveness or reduce cost
- Ensure estimates reflect actual operational capabilities and resource availability
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Production teams to confirm production data such as machine speeds, setup times, and die cutting requirements
- Work with Procurement to maintain supplier relationships and secure best pricing for raw materials and services
- Provide Sales with clear, actionable estimate data to support the quoting process
- Act as a trusted resource to help Sales understand operational considerations without making final pricing decisions
Process Improvement & Data Management
- Continuously update and maintain cost models to reflect current production efficiencies and market conditions
- Track and analyze estimating accuracy by comparing actual production results to estimates
- Support initiatives to streamline estimating processes and reduce quote turnaround time
- Maintain an up-to-date database of materials, suppliers, and production costs
Qualifications and Experience
Education & Experience
- 3–4 years of estimating experience in printing, packaging, or paper converting manufacturing required
- Strong understanding of flexographic printing and related converting processes
- Experience with ERP systems preferred, especially where estimating models apply factors and variables to process routings to build accurate production costs
- Proficiency in MS Office required
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX is an asset

- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in managing data and calculations
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to creatively identify alternative solutions
- Clear and professional business communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively across Operations, Sales, and Procurement
- Self-motivated and adaptable to changing priorities
Candidate Profile or Skills and Competencies
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English; Bilingual (English & French) preferred
